• South Edgewood Drive West of McKeel Academy to East of Taft - Work Delayed

  Due to the recent storm event and Water Department water main upgrade and relocation schedule to start in October, this project has been delayed till further notice.

  City of Lakeland crews will begin drainage improvements, sidewalk and driveway construction on the north side of the roadway. Motorists can expect daily lane closure traffic control and flagging operations in place. Motorists and pedestrians can also expect delays and should use alternate routes when available. This project is expected to take approximately six (6) months to complete.

• Emma Street and North Scott Avenue Improvements - Work Begins December 2, 2024

  Starting December 2, 2024, City of Lakeland crews will begin sidewalk, curb, driveway, and ADA curb ramps improvements project.  This work will be done on Emma Street from North Scott Avenue to Florida Avenue and on North Scott Avenue from Emma Street to Parker Street West.  Daily road closures can be expected. Motorists and pedestrians can also expect delays and should use alternate routes when available. This project is expected to take approximately seven (7) months to complete.

• Easton Drive Street Repair - Work Begins February 24, 2025

  In preparation for re-paving this brick street, City crews will have to install concrete ribbon tie-ins on the east and west end of the block of Easton Drive (between Cambridge Avenue and Fairmount Avenue) for the asphalt paving to tie into and the existing brick that will remain in place. The concrete portion of this project is scheduled for the week of February 24, 2025 and is expected to take up to a week to complete. The paving is scheduled for March 10 or 11, 2025 and will be completed in one day. The speed hump will be scheduled within a couple of weeks after paving. During each aspect of this project, traffic control devices will be in place to guide motorists through the work zone, or a detour will be in place when closing this section of roadway is necessary.

  This section of Easton Drive was part of a brick street restoration project five years ago.  The asphalt was removed and restored to the original brick street that existed under the asphalt. During heavy rain events, this section of brick street gets washed out severely and creates a safety issue for motorists. This has happened several times and no remedies have been found to prevent this issue. Once paved, we are also going to install a traffic calming hump on this block to address concerns of speeding.

• Cleveland Heights Blvd Turn Lane Modification - Work Begins February 10, 2025

  Starting February 10, 2025 City of Lakeland crews will begin modification to south bound turn lane at Westover Street. Daily Lane closures can be expected. Motorists and pedestrians can also expect delays and should use alternate routes when available. This project is expected to take approximately three (3) months to complete.

• North Crystal Lake Drive at The Grove Apartment Complex Repairs - Complete May 2024

  Starting March 4, 2024, City of Lakeland crews will be doing drainage repairs and installing a pollution control device (PCD) in the Lake Bonny Outfall ditch. The south bound entrance will be closed to traffic from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday. Detour and Flaggers will be in place. Motorists and pedestrians can expect delays and should use alternate routes when available. This project is expected to take approximately two (2) months.

• Newport Avenue and Easton Drive Intersection Work - Complete May 2024

  Starting May 20, 2024, City of Lakeland crews will begin construction of a traffic calming roundabout. Flaggers will be in place. Motorists and pedestrians can expect delays and should use alternate routes when available. This project is expected to take approximately four (4) weeks to complete.

• 219 North Massachusetts Treebox and Streetscape Repair - Complete May 23, 2024

  Starting Sunday, May 5, 2024, City of Lakeland crews will be removing a tree and replacing the concrete tree box and surrounding streetscape pavers that have been damaged by the tree roots. Pedestrian detours will be in place, as well as the necessary traffic control signage. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, May 10, 2024.

• Contractor Applying Asphalt Rejuvenator to Various Streets Throughout the City-Complete May 29, 2024

  Starting Wednesday, May 15, 2024, a contractor working for the City of Lakeland will be applying an asphalt rejuvenator to various streets throughout the City. The contractor will distribute notices to residents a day or two before they start work in neighborhoods. They will also have traffic control signs in place with flaggers to assist motorists where needed. Minimal delays to traffic are expected.

• Main Street (North Lake Parker to North Ingraham Avenue) Sanitary Sewer Removal - Complete June 2024

  Starting Monday, May 13, 2024, City of Lakeland crews will begin removal of abandoned sanitary sewer. The east bound lane of East Main Street will be closed from North Ingraham Avenue to North Lake Parker Avenue and a detour will be in place. • Cleveland Heights Blvd Curb Ramp Replacement from Westover to Eastway - Compete June 2024

  Starting May 28, 2024 City of Lakeland crews will begin removal and construction of ADA curb ramps on Cleveland Heights Blvd at Raintree Blvd and the entrance to The Park Verona Apartments to meet FDOT standards. Expect daily lane closures of the north bound lane of Cleveland Heights Blvd. Motorists and pedestrians can expect delays and should use alternate routes when available. Pedestrian detours will also be in place. This project is expected to take approximately one (1) month to complete.

• 219 N Massachusetts Avenue Tree Box Streetscape Repair Complete June 2024

  Starting Sunday, June 2, 2024, City crews will be removing a tree from the streetscape and sidewalk area in front of the police station on North Massachusetts Avenue. The reconstruction is expected to be completed by the following Friday. During this timeframe, lane shifts and pedestrian detours will be in place. Signs will be in place to assist motorists and pedestrians. Minor delays are to be expected.

• Lake Parker Aquatic Plant Harvesting Project - Complete Summer 2024

  The City of Lakeland’s Lakes & Stormwater Division will begin an Aquatic Plant Harvesting project in Lake Parker to reduce dense vegetation in portions of the lake.  The main objective of this project is to minimize the volume of invasive and nuisance aquatic plant species, promote plant diversity for habitat improvement, open drainage corridors for improved water flow, and enhance water quality through removal of aquatic plants.

• Lake Bonny Stormwater Outfall Retrofit Project - Complete Summer 2024

  This project consists of the installation of a nutrient separating pollution control device (PCD) that will be installed at an outfall to Lake Bonny on the north side of North Crystal Lake Drive near its intersection with US Highway 98 North.  The PCD will effectively reduce the amount of sediment, nutrients, and floatable trash entering Lake Bonny from the stormwater outfall at this location.   

  Lake Bonny does not meet current water quality standards due to elevated levels of nutrients and has a mandated Total Maximum Daily Load nutrient reduction requirement.  Previous studies identified the main source of nutrients to Lake Bonny is through stormwater discharge via multiple stormwater outfall locations.  The outfall chosen for this project was shown to contribute significant non-point source nutrient loads to the lake. 

  The Lake Bonny Stormwater Outfall Retrofit Project includes the permitting, construction and installation of an underground PCD with nutrient removal capabilities through use of an innovative biosorption activated media filter and baffle boxes designed to remove sediment and trash from the stormwater flow before it enters the lake.  

  This project begins March 4, 2024 and will take approximately three months to complete.

• Easton Drive at Newport Avenue Intersection-Complete July 10, 2024

  Starting April15, 2024 City of Lakeland crews will begin installing new curb, sidewalk, and driveways on the south side of Olive Street from Central Avenue to Cornelia Avenue. • Cleveland Heights Boulevard Resurfacing - Completed August 2024

  Starting July 22, 2024, contractors working for the City of Lakeland will start the Cleveland Heights Boulevard resurfacing project between Westover Street and Lake Miriam Drive. On July 22, 2024 milling will start and is expected to take three to four days to complete. Paving is set to begin July 29, 2024 and is also expected to take three to four days to complete. During the milling and paving, delays in traffic are to be expected. Please use alternate routes if possible. The road will remain open with traffic control and flagging operations in place.

• 200 N Kentucky Avenue - Streetscape Repair - Completed September 2024

  Starting Sunday, September 8,2024, City of Lakeland crews will be removing a tree and concrete tree box as well as the associated streetscape pavers that were damaged by the tree roots. They will immediately start reconstruction and should be completed by the following Friday, September 13, 2024. During this time frame delays are to be expected and the necessary traffic control devices and pedestrian detours will be in place.

• Tree Box Replacement at 219 North Massachusetts Ave - Complete January 2025

  Starting Sunday, January 12, 2025, City crews will be removing a tree, concrete tree box, and associated streetscape to perform the necessary repairs due to damage from tree roots. The repairs should be completed by Friday, January 17, 2025. During this project, traffic control devices and pedestrian detours will be in place.
