Water Transmission & Distribution

Water Distribution is responsible for Construction and Maintenance of the City's water distribution system.  The distribution system encompasses approximately 998 miles of service piping to deliver treated water to customers and 8.74 miles of raw water piping to convey water from the well fields to the treatment plants. There are over 54,000 active service meters installed in the system which provide 100% coverage of water consumption.  Over the years, the City has continued programs to reduce unaccounted-for water usage such as meter testing, leak detection, elimination of unmetered services, and reduction of master meters.

Hurricane Preparedness Update: Water Outages

Please be assured that we will not be turning off water service prior to the storm. However, due to the severe weather conditions, water service outages may occur.

In the event of any service disruptions, we will provide updates as soon as possible here, on our website. If you lose water pressure during the storm, boil drinking and cooking water for at least one minute as a precaution. Communication systems could be affected by storm impacts and precautionary boil water notice communications may not reach everyone. The City of Lakeland sends texts or email alerts directly to those impacted using the contact information associated with your Lakeland Electric billing account. Customers impacted by a notification message will receive the lift notice in the same manner and may also refer to our Boil Water Notices webpage for updates.
