    Scammers are sending emails that look like they are from the City, asking for payment related to permits or inspections. These messages may include real project details and staff names.

    • You receive an unexpected email requesting payment

    • The message creates urgency or pressure to act quickly

    • Payment is requested through wire transfer, apps, or cryptocurrency

    • Payment instructions differ from what the City normally provides

    • The sender’s email address looks similar, but not exact

    • We will not change payment instructions through email

    • We will not request payment through gift cards, crypto, or peer-to-peer apps

    • We will not pressure you to make immediate payment without verification

    • Only use official City payment methods and websites

    • Follow instructions provided through your normal permitting process

    • When in doubt, contact the City directly using a known phone number

    • Do not reply to the email

    • Contact the City using official contact information

    • Report the message to City staff

    • Report the incident to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

    • Notify the City so we can assist and track the activity
