LAKELAND, FL – (February 17, 2021) | The City of Lakeland has been awarded a grant of $100,000 from the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) as part of its annual Cooperative Funding Initiative (CFI) grant program for the Crystal Lake Water Quality Improvement Study.  The CFI program provides funding to local governments to cover up to 50% of costs for water quality improvement and flood control projects.  The project consists of a feasibility study to evaluate nutrient reduction sediment treatment options to improve water quality in Crystal Lake.

LAKELAND, FL (February 16, 2021) | The Lakeland Public Library (Main Branch), located at 100 Lake Morton Drive, will be closed on February 22^nd & 23^rd and re-open with limited services Wednesday, February 24^th.  This closure will be the start of Phase 1 of a two-phase construction project at the Main Library location. Construction for Phase 1 is expected to last up to one year.

LAKELAND, FL (February 12, 2021) | Starting February 15^th, the City of Lakeland invites the community to join on an adventure visiting City facilities to learn about Lakeland’s Black History pioneers. This self-led activity encourages participants to safely participate by visiting City facilities, following safety protocols in place including temperature checks and the use of masks/face coverings. Additionally, for those unable to visit the locations in person, visit our website www.lakelandgov.net/discoverytrail for an online option.

LAKELAND, FL (February 3, 2021) | This year will be the Tigers' 85th season for Spring Training at Tiger Town, extending the longest-standing relationship between a Major League team and a current Spring Training host city. The 2021 spring season will be the club’s 56th consecutive season of playing at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. The Detroit Tigers will start arriving for Spring Training on February 17^th when pitchers and catchers report to Lakeland a few days ahead of the position players who are scheduled to arrive on February 22^nd.  

UPDATE: On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at approximately 6:30 am, Lakeland Police were called to investigate a shooting that took place near the 1500 block of Fairbanks Street. Upon arrival, they found an adult male with gunshot wounds.
