Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) Hiring Requirements

The City of Lakeland Fire Department offers full testing services for the position of Firefighter through National Testing Network, Inc. National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing and Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) testing in a standardized, professional environment.

To fill out an application and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select Fire, sign up for the City of Lakeland, and complete the following steps:

  • Complete the application process
  • Review all information related to the City of Lakeland Fire Department firefighter position, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits
  • Review detailed information about the testing process for both the entry-level test and CPAT testing
  • Opportunity to take online practice tests at www.fireteamtest.com
  • Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered multiple times a week, including Saturdays
  • Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment

Upon completion of the entry-level exam and CPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Lakeland Fire Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry-level exam and the physical abilities test will be placed on the department’s eligibility list. Based on the numerical ranking, a maximum number of candidates (to be determined) will be contacted by the City of Lakeland Fire Department to continue in the selection process. National Testing Network does not replace the City of Lakeland’s Fire Department’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to the City of Lakeland Fire Department where the final decisions are made.

City of Lakeland Application Process

To be considered for employment as a Firefighter with the City of Lakeland, please follow these steps:

  • STEP 1 - Complete CPAT and FireTEAM
    • Prior to submitting an application for employment as a Firefighter, you must successfully complete the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) and FireTEAM assessments offered on this site.
  • STEP 2 - Complete City of Lakeland Employment Application
    • Employment applications are not accepted until both CPAT and FireTEAM are successfully completed. Once successfully completed, log on to Government Jobs and fill out the application for employment and job interest card if there is no current job posting for Firefighter.

Be certain to complete all sections of the application. All information provided on your application (as well as in all other phases of the employment process) must be true, current, accurate and without omission.

  • STEP 3 - Submit Your Supporting Documents

Your application will not be complete until you submit legible copies of each of the following documents. Applications are not processed until all required documents have been received by Human Resources. It is preferred that applicants upload all supporting documents before SUBMITTING the application. Supporting documents cannot be uploaded once an application has been SUBMITTED.

  • Valid State of Florida Certification of Compliance for a Firefighter
  • Valid State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician Certification
