When storms damage put communities in crisis, our Lakeland Electric team answers the call. On August 27th, Hurricane Laura made landfall as a damaging Category 4 hurricane in Louisiana. Our mutual aid team was already on its way to provide assistance. The hurricane caused extensive damage and tied with the 1856 Last Island Hurricane as the strongest hurricane to make Louisiana's landfall.

LAKELAND, FL (September 11, 2020) | The Reopen Lakeland Taskforce and the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce have partnered with Love Lakeland, a 501(c)3 organization, in seeking community support through an initiative to support forty-one Lakeland-area public schools. The initiative, Adopt A School¸ calls for financial support from the community in an effort to ensure students, staff, and faculty remain safe and healthy in the 2020-2021 academic year and in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

LAKELAND, FL (August 27, 2020) | The City of Lakeland recently purchased an aquatic plant harvester built by Inland Lake Harvesters, Inc. of Burlington, Wisconsin and we are looking to the public to help name the machine. Laurie Smith, Manager of Lakes & Stormwater said, “Technically the harvester is a boat, registered as a vessel with the State of Florida so we need a clever name for our new boat that also happens to remove invasive aquatic vegetation.”
LAKELAND, FL (August 26, 2020) | The Junior League of Greater Lakeland, the organizers of the Lakeland Christmas Parade and the City of Lakeland have made a decision to cancel the 2020 Lakeland Christmas Parade due to the complications of COVID-19. The organizing committee has obvious concerns regarding the pandemic and the unknowns of what impacts the virus may have going forward.
