Tuition Reimbursement

The City offers a Tuition Reimbursement Program to support employee professional development and career advancement. Eligible general employees may receive up to $2,500 per fiscal year (October 1 through September 30) for reimbursement of approved educational expenses. Reimbursement is available upon successful completion of coursework with a final grade of “C” or better for credit-bearing courses only. Members of collective bargaining units should refer to their applicable union agreements for program details.

Eligible Institutions and Courses
Courses must be offered by educational institutions accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or by a U.S. Department of Education-approved accrediting body. Eligible coursework must be directly related to the employee’s current position or to other positions within the City that enhance career advancement opportunities.

Eligible Expenses
Reimbursable expenses may include:

  • Tuition, enrollment, and attendance fees for degree, certificate, diploma programs, and industry certifications, including graduate and doctoral-level coursework

  • Coursework leading to the successful attainment of a GED

  • Mandatory fees charged by and paid to the educational institution, including but not limited to:

    • Student activity and service fees

    • Athletic, audit, and distance learning fees

    • Laboratory, health, material, supply, and equipment use fees

    • Off-campus educational activity fees

    • Parking and technology fees

  • Course-related books, educational supplies, tools, or equipment when specifically required by a course syllabus, required book list, or official documentation provided by the educational institution

  • Applicable sales taxes on eligible expenses

All reimbursements are subject to program guidelines, pre-approval requirements, and availability of funds.
