Public Notice: City of Lakeland Water Utilities Urges Caution After Report of False Representation
LAKELAND, FL (October 4, 2024) | The City of Lakeland Water Utilities Department has been made aware of a recent social media post. The post claims that an individual attempted to enter a home while posing as a City of Lakeland Water Utilities employee, supposedly to perform water quality sampling.
The City of Lakeland Water Utilities Department would like to remind all residents that a City employee will only enter a home if the homeowner has initiated a request for services. All legitimate City of Lakeland Water Utilities staff members carry City-issued identification and will always be driving a clearly marked City of Lakeland vehicle.
Currently, the Water Utilities Department is working with contractors to replace water meters throughout the City. These contractors carry City of Lakeland Contractor identification cards and will only notify homeowners if water service will be temporarily disrupted while the meter is being replaced. At no point will any Water Utilities contractor ask to enter a home.
Residents who have any concerns regarding water quality or wish to verify the identity of a City of Lakeland Water Utilities employee can contact the City of Lakeland T.B. Williams Water Treatment Plant at 863-834-6802.
The City of Lakeland Water Utilities Department encourages residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
