LAKELAND, FL (September 24, 2020) | CSX Railroad notified the City of Lakeland about crossing closures that will be taking place starting October.  CSX contractors will be remove existing crossings, replacing railroad ties, and repaving the crossing. CSX will be closing the following Lakeland area crossing for repairs and updates:

LAKELAND, FL (September 11, 2020) | The Reopen Lakeland Taskforce and the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce have partnered with Love Lakeland, a 501(c)3 organization, in seeking community support through an initiative to support forty-one Lakeland-area public schools. The initiative, Adopt A School¸ calls for financial support from the community in an effort to ensure students, staff, and faculty remain safe and healthy in the 2020-2021 academic year and in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

LAKELAND, FL (September 1, 2020) | The Lakeland City Commission authorized a 10% reduction in building permit and inspection fees effective September 1, 2020 and a refund of $1 Million to Building Inspection Division customers who paid fees between October 1, 2019 -  August 31, 2020.   

LAKELAND, FL (August 31, 2020) | The City of Lakeland anticipates applying for Rebuild Florida General Infrastructure Program (GIP) funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to address mitigation needs to ensure that the state of Florida is more resilient to future natural disasters.

LAKELAND, FL (August 27, 2020) | The City of Lakeland recently purchased an aquatic plant harvester built by Inland Lake Harvesters, Inc. of Burlington, Wisconsin and we are looking to the public to help name the machine.  Laurie Smith, Manager of Lakes & Stormwater said, “Technically the harvester is a boat, registered as a vessel with the State of Florida so we need a clever name for our new boat that also happens to remove invasive aquatic vegetation.”

LAKELAND, FL (August 26, 2020) | The Junior League of Greater Lakeland, the organizers of the Lakeland Christmas Parade and the City of Lakeland have made a decision to cancel the 2020 Lakeland Christmas Parade due to the complications of COVID-19.  The organizing committee has obvious concerns regarding the pandemic and the unknowns of what impacts the virus may have going forward. 

LAKELAND, FL (August 21, 2020) | The City of Lakeland in partnership with Bonnet Springs Park (a non-profit organization) will be submitting an application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for a Florida General Infrastructure Program Mitigation Grant (CDBG-MIT) on September 14, 2020.
