Pipe Inventory Map
Lakeland invites all customers to review the inventory map and check the status of their water service line (pipe) material determination. See the pipe material test below for instructions on how to locate your water service line and complete a simple magnet and scratch test. The pipe inventory map will be updated periodically as new information is made available.
The City of Lakeland is complying with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). The LCRR specifies that all U.S. utilities must create an inventory of service line materials in their water distribution systems and check for potential lead service lines.
While the likelihood of finding lead service lines in our distribution system is low, there are still properties that are listed as having water service lines made of an unknown material. As we complete our inventory, we invite you to help by conducting a short pipe material test to identify or confirm the material of your private water service line.

- Locate and select your service line address.
- If it is listed as unknown, follow the below steps to identify your service line material.
Pipe Material Test
Collect the following items in preparation for the test:
- Magnet
- Key or Coin
- Camera or mobile device to document your test results
Step 1: Locate where your water pipe (service line) enters your home. The service line is the pipe that connects your home to the public water main. The line will typically enter your home at the exterior of the house through a hose bib connection.
Step 2: Place the magnet on the pipe and see if it sticks. Take a photo of the magnet stuck to the pipe or capture that it did not stick.
Step 3: Using the key or coin, scratch the service line below or before the shutoff valve. Take a photo of the color under the scratch.
Step 4: Tap the pipe with the key or coin. Note the sound.
If you find that your service line material is different from what is shown on the inventory map, you may notify Lakeland Water Utilities by calling Customer Service at 863.834.8316, between 7:30am and 6pm, Monday through Friday.
