  • Why is there a Stormwater charge on my bill and how is the fee calculated and collected?

We all enjoy the beautiful lakes in the City of Lakeland that are maintained by City staff.  Funding is needed to continue with the maintenance of the City lakes and to ensure that all regulatory requirements are met. There is a flat rate for residential customers and commercial customers are billed based on the square footage of the property.  If you are the owner of a commercial property the charges will revert to the owner if unoccupied by a tenant

The utility fee is included as a separate item on the utility bill received for municipal water, wastewater, solid waste, recycling and electric services. It is due each month through the monthly utility payment.

All developed properties within the City limits that receive an electric utility bill are subject to a stormwater utility fee. This includes residences, businesses, churches and schools.

The fee per month is $8.00 for single-family residential, $5.37 for a mobile home and $4.77 for multi-living residential units.

Fees for non-residential customers are based on the amount of impervious (pavement, roofs, sidewalk) area on the property. These customers are assessed a monthly rate of $8.00 per 5,000 square feet of impervious area.

  • Where should I place bulk items for pickup?

Items for bulk pickup are to be placed curbside if you are inside city limits. If your garbage can is gray, and your recycle bin is yellow, you are a Polk County customer and will need to contact them directly. The Polk County solid waste department number 863.284.4319 for your reference.

  • Why is my wastewater more than my water charges?

The charges for Wastewater is higher than the Water charges in most cities and the City of Lakeland is not the exception.  As you can imagine the process to treat the wastewater flows versus the water flows are much more involved and standards that must be met have become more stringent resulting in higher costs to treat the wastewater flows.

  • What are the measurements of roll off containers?
