City News Blog: Residential Structure Fire on Bert Street


Lakeland, FL (May 4, 2026) — Lakeland Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Bert Street Monday afternoon, shortly before 4:00 PM, involving a mobile home.
Arriving crews encountered active fire conditions with reports of a possible occupant inside. Firefighters initiated an immediate search while beginning fire suppression efforts. One adult victim was located inside the residence and confirmed deceased on scene. Two dogs were also located deceased inside the residence.
Crews managed a large crowd in the area and coordinated with law enforcement for scene control.
The fire was brought under control and utilities were secured. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene and investigating the cause of the fire. Lakeland Police Department Crime Scene Unit is also on scene.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
