Public Notice: Emergency Closure of Southbound Harden Boulevard at Beacon Road

Public Notice: Emergency Closure of Southbound Harden Boulevard at Beacon Road

Lakeland, FL (August 20, 2026) - The City of Lakeland is notifying motorists of an emergency road closure associated with the Western Trunk Gravity Sewer Project. Beginning Thursday, August 20, at approximately 2 PM, southbound Harden Boulevard at Beacon Road will be temporarily closed for up to 24 hours to allow crews to complete emergency utility repairs.

During the closure, southbound traffic will be detoured east on Beacon Road to South Florida Avenue and then south to Edgewood Drive. Motorists should expect delays in the area and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.  The temporary closure is necessary to safely complete critical repair work and restore the system. Garney crews will work continuously throughout the shutdown with the goal of completing repairs and reopening southbound Harden Boulevard as soon as possible.  Off-duty law enforcement officers and traffic control personnel will be onsite throughout the operation to assist motorists and help maintain safe traffic flow.

The City of Lakeland appreciates the public's patience and cooperation while this emergency work is completed. Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to use caution, follow posted detour signage and allow additional travel time.
