(LAKELAND, FL) February 20, 2025 - The Lakeland Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2025 Citizens Police Academy. Classes meet every Thursday night from 6:30PM - 9:30PM for twelve (13) weeks with 15 classes, beginning on August 7, 2025, and concluding October 30, 2025.

The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is designed for selected community-oriented individuals who wish to learn more about their local police department. The CPA includes detailed information on police topics such as uniformed patrol, special investigations (i.e., vice and narcotics), crime scene investigation, SWAT, K9 and many other areas of interest. Also included in the curriculum is a tour of the police station, including the 911 emergency communications center, and a firearms familiarization course, which after completion participants will be given a chance to test their skills at the firing range.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age but are not required to reside within the city of Lakeland to be accepted.
