City News Blog: Emily Colón, Deputy City Manager of Lakeland, Announces Resignation
LAKELAND, FL (July 18, 2024) | The City of Lakeland announces the resignation of Deputy City Manager Emily Colón. Colón submitted her resignation to City Manager Shawn Sherrouse last week, as she and her family prepare to transition to Orlando.
Emily Colón has been a pivotal figure in Lakeland’s administration since joining as Assistant City Manager in April 2019 and being promoted to Deputy City Manager in June 2022. Her tenure has been marked by leading the COVID-19 response for the City and updating the Strategic and Budgeting Planning Processes, which have left an indelible mark on the organization. Her collaborative approach and commitment to public service have been instrumental in the City's progress.
City Manager Shawn Sherrouse stated, "Emily’s contributions to the City of Lakeland have been tremendous. She is a skilled public administrator with a very personable communication style that has helped shape the way we interact with and serve our community. Her leadership has benefited the culture of our organization, and her positive influence will be long-lasting.” He added, “Together, Emily and I have experienced professional and personal adversities and achievements. She will remain a deeply valued colleague and trusted friend to both me and the City of Lakeland organization. We wish her, Rick and their family much happiness and success."
Reflecting on her departure, Emily Colón commented, "This is a bittersweet moment for my family and me. Lakeland will always have a special place in our hearts. I am incredibly grateful to City Manager Shawn Sherrouse and former City Manager Tony Delgado for the opportunity to lead in this amazing City. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to the dedicated City Team, the Mayor and City Commission, and all the citizens and stakeholders for their unwavering support and commitment to Lakeland." Emily Colón has pledged her full support to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
