Lakeland Linder International Airport Receives Regional Award for CAT III Project - City News Blog


LAKELAND, FL | Lakeland Linder International Airport received the 2023 SEC-AAAE General Aviation Airfield Project of the Year Award for the construction of a new CAT III Instrument Landing System. This award is presented to a deserving airport that has completed an outstanding project during the preceding two calendar years prior to the Annual Chapter Conference.

This $13.5+ million dollar project included: demolition of the existing MALSR approach lighting system and installation of a new ALSF-2 approach lighting system (including its support building); relocation of Taxiway P (Papa) making way for the new touchdown RVR (Runway Visual Range Sensor) and Glide Slope facilities; construction of a new airfield electrical lighting vault; installation of runway centerline, touchdown, and lead-on/off lights; installation of elevated runway guard lights; and re-designation of Runway 09-27 to Runway 10-28.

With the system’s commissioning, LAL is only the fourth (4th) airport in the State of Florida and sixty-eighth (68th) nationally with low visibility operational capabilities.

The award was announced on May 2nd, 2023 during a general session of the SEC-AAAE Annual Conference in Richmond, VA. Presenting the award was Ryan Sisemore, Chair, SEC-AAAE Corporate Liaison Committee.

 


About Lakeland Linder International Airport: Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) is a public use airport located approximately four (4) miles southwest of the central business district of the City of Lakeland. It was originally commissioned in 1942 as an Army Air Corps training base during World War II.
