City Of Lakeland Hosts Black History Festival | Saturday, February 19th

LAKELAND, FL (February 2, 2022) | The public is invited to join the City of Lakeland in celebrating Black History Month at Jackson Park on February 19th from 10 a.m. - to 2 p.m. for the Annual Black History Festival. The event will be a fun-filled, family-friendly day that will include performances, food vendors, crafts, and historic displays.  There will be members from the City of Lakeland’s Parks & Recreation Department on hand giving away free plants while supplies last.

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their role in US History.  Black History month is the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.  Since 1975, every President of the United States has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.  Other countries around the world including Canada and the United Kingdom, devote a month to celebrating Black History.

The Black History Festival at Jackson Park (1130 Martin Luther King Junior Avenue) will be emceed by Unspoken Word, a local group of up-and-coming community leaders.  The event will include performances by the following:

  • Crystal’s World of Dance – (African Dance Tribute)
  • Coleman – Bush Ballet Class
  • Corey Tumer’s – TBS Step Team
  • Mrs. Teasia – Line Dance Demonstration
  • Goodie Treats Mentoring Group – Walking the Runway

There will be a variety of vendors selling their wares ranging from clothing and handbags to books and candles.  Join the City of Lakeland at Jackson Park for a day filled with history, food, fun and great performances as we all celebrate Black History Month. The event is FREE to the public but bring a little spending money for the food and merchandise vendors. You’ll be glad you did!
