LAKELAND, FL (December 20, 2021) | The City of Lakeland in coordination with the  Florida Department of Transportation, District 1 (FDOT) is asking for public input regarding the proposed Tenoroc Trail Segment 1.  The community can virtually review the information by visiting bit.ly/32fn1t1.  The storyboard includes an overview of the proposed trail, interactive map, background information on the trail and a short survey.  The survey will help project managers gain valuable input toward the development and features of the trail.  The public can also visit www.lakelandgov.net/tenoroctrail and provide feedback by submitting an email to info@lakelandgov.net.  Public comment deadline is set to end on Friday, January 14, 2022.

LAKELAND, FL (November 16, 2021) | The Lakeland History and Culture Center is currently being constructed at the Lakeland Main Library (100 Lake Morton Drive). Once completed, the new 1,400 square foot space will feature visually appealing exhibits with narratives that tell Lakeland’s story.  The Inaugural exhibit, opening in Spring of 2022, will outline the importance of the railroad and how it was a core component that helped shape Lakeland’s early history.

LAKELAND, FL (October 1, 2021) | As part of the City's participation in and eligibility for the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program, the Planning and Housing Division is required to implement an Affordable Housing Incentive Plan. 

LAKELAND, FL (August 13, 2021) | In addition to the South Florida Avenue sewer rehab work that will be finishing up on Monday, August 16^th, contract crews are scheduled to also be working in the downtown area just north of Lake Morton next week.

LAKELAND, FL (July 8, 2021) | In March 2020, in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on local businesses, the City Commission directed staff to relax enforcement of the City’s sign code provisions. This action was in regard to prohibited sign types such as banners, pennants, streamers, and inflatables. 

LAKELAND, FL (June 8, 2021) | City Manager Shawn Sherrouse appointed Brian Rewis as Interim Director of Community & Economic Development. Sherrouse said, “As the Assistant Director, Brian is intimately familiar with the responsibilities of the Department, and he is an advocate for our customers and the citizens we serve. During his 18-year tenure with the City of Lakeland, he has worked his way up in the Department, and I have full confidence that he will continue to provide the highest levels of public service.”

LAKELAND, FL (March 18, 2021) | Construction continues on Summit Consulting’s new eight-story, 135,000 square foot office building located on 1.2 acres at 117 N. Massachusetts Avenue on Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland. On March 19^th, general contractors will be topping off the shell of this building with the final pour of concrete on the rooftop level.

LAKELAND, FL (February 8, 2021) | The Lakeland City Commission recently established a Targeted Economic Investment Opportunities fund, with an initial investment of $500,000.
