Unacceptable Materials: Styrofoam

""

Styrofoam™️
Foam polystyrene, often referred to as Styrofoam™️, should never be included in your blue recycling cart.

This includes take-out containers, packaging peanuts and blocks. These items should go in your green garbage cart.

Two reasons NOT to include Styrofoam™️ in your blue recycling cart:

  1. We do not have any place to bring Styrofoam™️ to recycle it in the blue cart program. However, there are other alternatives for this material. For packing peanuts and foam block, check with local packing and shipping stores that may reuse these products. Also, Publix and many local grocers recycle Styrofoam™️ trays and egg cartons.
  2. Styrofoam™️ is light but bulky, and it breaks apart into tiny pieces that become wind-blown litter.
