Your library card opens the door to a world of information and a wealth of entertainment! ... and best of all? Library cards are FREE! Come in and get your library card today!

With your library card you can:

  • Borrow materials
  • Reserve and renew materials
  • Download ebooks, music and movies
  • Access our online databases from home
  • Log on to our public access computers

    ... and your library card is valid at ANY public library in Polk County! 

 

*If you are not a resident of Polk County or one of our reciprocal borrowing areas, you can get a one-year Polk County Library Cooperative library membership for $50.

How to Apply

You may apply for a library card at your nearest branch library or Apply Online*

There is no minimum age requirement to apply for a library card. Children of any age can obtain a library card with parent/guardian permission. Teens with a driver’s license or ID can apply for their own library card.

Individuals 15 years of age and younger must have a parent or guardian present.

*If you apply for a library card online, you will be issued a temporary library card. This account will not work with any library digital resources and expires after 30 days.


 

In Person

To obtain a library card in person, bring with you

  • present a valid picture ID
  • along with proof of current address*

*Proof of address documents include: driver's license, utility bill, voter's registration card, rental agreement.

Online

You may register online for a temporary library card.

To receive full library privileges, including access to digital resources, you must go in person to the nearest branch library and present

  • a valid picture ID
  • proof of address*

If you do not provide this information within 30 days, your account will be deactivated. 

*Proof of address documents include: driver's license, utility bill, voter's registration card, rental agreement.


Account

To access your account online, go to our catalog page and log in using your library card number and PIN. (Don't have your PIN? Don't worry, you can call or visit your library to obtain it!) From your account, you may view all materials checked out and their due dates, renew items, view your fines and holds, place requests, and view system messages. Please direct any questions regarding your library account to the Circulation Desk.

User Responsibilities

  • Return all materials borrowed by the due date.
  • Pay late fees if necessary.
  • Pay for items damaged or lost while in your possession.
  • Notify the library of address and contact information changes.

Lost or Stolen Card

A lost or stolen library card should be reported in order for the Library to deactivate the card.  You may visit or call your local branch to report the card lost or stolen. Replacement cards are $0.50 each.
