The Lakeland Police Department Media Relations Unit is staffed by three employees: the Public Information Officer, Social Media Specialist and Public Records Coordinator. The purpose of the Media Relations Unit is to facilitate prompt and efficient exchange of information for the benefit of our citizens. We will continuously strive to enhance the partnerships between our citizens and the officers of our department. The Public Information function is structured to support the Lakeland Police Department and to promote the department in a positive manner.
The department has personnel on call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week to assist media personnel. During regular business hours media can request police reports and other information to facilitate in the preparation of their articles and news cast. After hours and on weekends, a PIO is always on-call for emergencies and for significant breaking news events.
After hours, the on-call PIO will generally not have information regarding non-fatal car crashes, routine arrests, crimes not resulting in death or critical injury, or the status of cases that are not considered breaking news. Written records, including arrest affidavits, arrest reports, and event reports are generally not made available to personnel after hours or on weekends.
