Planning & Zoning

The mission of Lakeland’s Planning & Zoning division is to plan for the future while preserving the past, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous community. 

The Planning & Zoning division encourages quality growth and development through its management of the city’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code. 

City planners work closely with businesses, residents, landowners, and stakeholders to ensure that adequate infrastructure and services are available to support new development. The department reviews projects and provides expertise and recommendations to the Planning & Zoning Board, the Historic Preservation Board, the Zoning Board of Adjustments & Appeals, and the City Commission.
