LAKELAND'S EARLY CHURCHES
COLLEGE HEIGHTS METHODIST CHURCH

Back
The College Heights Methodist Church on South Boulevard was originally known as the Dixieland Methodist Church. The church pictured above replaced a small wood frame structure that had been literally built by the congregation in 1912. Ground was broken for the new church in 1922, but a shortage of funds delayed its completion until 1924. The name was changed to College Heights Methodist Church in 1926 to reflect the close association of the congregation with the recently arrived Florida Southern College. The building still stands today.
