Festivities Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. | Jazz In The Park & MLK Parade
LAKELAND, FL (January 3, 2021) | Festivities honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Junior and MLK Day include a jazz concert taking place the evening of Friday, January 14th, and the MLK Parade on Saturday, January 15th.
The 6th Annual MLK Jazz in the Park event features the Let’s Ride Brass Band. The FREE concert takes place at Munn Park on Friday, January 14th from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. The event is free so bring a lawn chair, a blanket and be prepared to hear wonderful jazz under the stars. For additional information go to: www.theblendedfmailyfoundation.com. The Teaspoon Hill Cultural Society is elated to announce, thier partnership with The Blended Family Foundation (BFF). The partnership fits greatly with the mission of the Blended Family Foundation. The headliner this year will be Let’s Ride Band from Jacksonville, Florida (www.letsridebrassband.com). They are a high energy, 2nd Line jazz group that kicked off the 40th Annual Jacksonville Jazz Fest and opened for jazz greats, Jeffrey Osbourne, Najee, Lalah Hathaway and Bobby Lyle. One of the event organizers, Ashley Troutman said, “While this event has continued to grow steadily each year our goal is still to foster diversity and inclusion and expose our community and youth to the world of jazz. We believe cultural experiences such as this will continue to honor the legacy of Dr. King by helping to shape the look and feel of our community.”
The MLK Day Parade takes place Saturday, January 15th and will begin at 11 a.m. The parade route will start on Providence Road at the 14th Street intersection. The parade will travel Providence Road then turn east onto 10th street before heading south on MLK Avenue. The parade will include professional floats, step groups, walkers, decorated vehicles and marching bands. The theme for this year’s parade is Dream, Vision, Unity. Those participating in the parade can pick up their information packets on Wednesday, January 11th at 6 p.m. at the Coleman Bush Building (1104 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue). The community is invited to attend the MLK parade in celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior and his ideals. Dr. King maintained a vision for a more diverse America where all people enjoyed the benefits of equality.
